London Mayor Sadiq Khan has issued a statement confirming the reopening of the TFL London night tube. The Central and Victoria lines will resume next month. His statement read; «I’m delighted to see the return of the Victoria and Central night Tube lines next month. This will make a huge difference to people travelling around our city at night and making their way home, offering them an additional safe, reliable transport option”.

Underground Night Tube Reopens Winter 2021

The decision to reopen the London night tube was made in response to an online petition made by Ella Watson. The petition urged Sadiq Khan and the TFL to reopen the London night tube lines. Firstly, the rise in night crime against women in London influenced the petition. Likewise, the murders of Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa also had a huge impact.

«The decision taken by TfL to keep the night tube closed during the winter of 2021/2022 will have a disproportionate impact on women, and low-income groups and women are then forced to take expensive taxis home during the busy festive season as a result of being unsafe in public” – Ella Watson

The petition has received over 140.000 signatures. It was successful and night lines will reopen on November 27th.

Subsequently, Cousin’s falsely arrested Everard on the grounds that she was breaking covid restrictions. The murder of Sarah Everard has incited fear and distress among women all over the United Kingdom.

What was the delay in reopening the London Night Tube?

In short, the night tube closed during the pandemic and many people lost their jobs. As a result, the TFL states that the delay in resuming night services is due to a lack of trained drivers and staff. Previously, RMT union members threatened to strike over the changes in night drivers wages.
