Avocados are a superfood
Avocados are tasty, but the most important thing is that they provide us a lot of energy. They are nutrient dense, contain relatively few calories, and provide a big amount of vitamins and minerals. These fruits act as a “nutrient booster”. This means that it enables the body to absorb fat-soluble nutrients, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K, in foods that are eaten with the fruit.
The avocado’s trees are native to the humid sub-tropical and tropical regions of central and northern South America. The farmers harvest the fruits by hand and pick them from the trees, and its then when they start to ripen.
Consumption in Europe
Europe concentrates 39% of total imports. The Netherlands was the second biggest importer in the world. However, it re-exported 93% of the volume it imported that year, mainly to other countries in Europe.
The fruit is living its golden moment in the European continent, where its consume in 2018 has grown a 35% in comparison with 2017. The consumption of avocados reached 650 millions of kilograms last year according to the World Avocado Organization (WAO).
