The Nobel Prize is commonly known as the most prestigious award in the world of science. Winners of six different categories come to Stockholm in order to receive their golden medals according to Nobel’s last will. Moreover, during this weekend we will get acquainted with the 2023 Nobel Prize Winners.
Take a look at this telegram from the 1901 peace laureate, Henry Dunant.

Alfred Nobel died on October the 10th in year 1863. On this day, since 1901, the Nobel Foundation Committee has awarded scientists from all over the world for their outstanding contributions in a particular field.
These year’s winners present as follows:
-
- In physics: Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krauszand Anne L’Huillier “for their experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in the matter”
- In physiology or medicine: Katalin Karikóand Drew Weissman “for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19”
- In chemistry: Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brusand Alexei I. Ekimov “for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots”
- In literature: Jon Fosse“for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable”
- In economic sciences: Claudia Goldin“for having advanced our understanding of women’s labor market outcomes”
- Peace prize: Narges Mohammadi“for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all”
Finally, what do these results indicate?
Firstly, we can notice the echo of last year’s pandemic, and how significant was the research on the COVID-19 vaccines. Moreover, in terms of further society development, we can see the shift towards feminist economics theory in order to mitigate the world’s inequalities. Last, but not least this year’s Nobel Prize had to handle complicated diplomacy. The Committee had to decide, where to world would turn its eyes. Towards Ukraine (because of also nominated Volodymyr Zelensky) or towards the Middle East? The Committee eventually gave the chance to speak on the ceremony’s rostrum to the “silent” Iranian women.
