Twitch is the world’s largest live streaming platform and since its inception has specialized in broadcasting videogame games, although it is increasingly offering other types of content, such as music, lifestyle, chats with users or sports. In fact, important clubs such as Real Madrid, PSG or Arsenal have their own channel. The platform itself defines itself as follows: «Twitch is where millions of people gather live every day to chat, interact and create their own entertainment together.»

Twitch allows users to make and watch live broadcasts. Streamers broadcast an event in real time and interact with the audience communicating via chat. Both followers and subscribers of a channel can watch the streams for free. However, subscribers pay a monthly fee that provides them with a number of benefits. Depending on the type of subscription, you can watch ad-free streams, subscriber-only streams, talk privately with the streamer, and access emoticons and subscriber emblems.

According to data from the platform itself, Twitch receives 17.5 million visitors per day and has an average audience of more than 1.5 million viewers. In addition, every month, more than 4 million content creators perform live broadcasts on the platform.

Two-thirds of users are men (65% male and 35% female), although just two years ago the difference was much more pronounced (81% male and 19% female). By age, there is no doubt that Twitch is a platform for centennials (41%) and millennials (32%).

Twitch was born in 2011 as a spin-off of Justin.tv specialized in video game streaming. The community grew so fast that it soon caught the attention of technology giants.

In 2014 was bought by Amazon for $970 million (about 820 million euros), after failing to reach an agreement with Google. To this day Twitch is included as a package in the Amazon Prime subscription. Since its acquisition by Amazon, Twitch has not stopped growing, taking advantage of the success of eSports around the world. It has gained so much popularity that there is even a TwitchCon that allows you to meet streamers, play games and participate in eSports competitions.
