“I chose Barcelona for my Erasmus program because I had been to the city a couple years ago and really enjoyed it”

Why did you choose Barcelona for your Erasmus destination?

I chose Barcelona for my Erasmus program because I had been to the city a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. I think it’s a great place to be at and looked forward to learning more about its culture. Also, Abat Oliba had interesting subjects that could help me learn new things for my major and I really wanted to attend here. Another perk was that I got to be in Europe and travel to other countries while studying in Barcelona.

What are the differences between the educational system in Mexico and in Spain?

In Mexico you can take classes from other years. Classes in Mexico start in January and in Spain in February. The grading system is also different although the grading in both countries is from 1 to 10, in Mexico you fail with a five and in Spain with a four. Apart from these things they’re actually very similar in everything else for example, the structure of classes and attendance policies.

What would you like to do after you graduate?

I would like to become a photographer. I’m taking photography classes at the moment to achieve that. Also, I’ve worked in film production in the past and really enjoy this line of work; I would like to grow in that area as well.

What is it like to be an Erasmus Student?

At first it’s challenging because you have to adapt to the way things work in the country you arrive at. Nevertheless, after you’ve settled in it’s very interesting to learn new things, new cultures and to get to know the city you’re studying at.
